DOAF & FLIGHT CLUB BRING DUCK HERITAGE INTO THE FUTURE
Limited Edition “Metallic Nova” Nike GT Future Offers a Seamless Blending of Duck History and Next-Gen Technology.
When it comes to uniforms, University of Oregon athletes are no strangers to being on the cutting edge. But the latest Ducks of a Feather sneaker drop, an iconic offering perhaps best described as “flowing edge,” leans even more into the future—literally.
Using the revolutionary Nike GT Future as its canvas, the “Metallic Nova” version features a molded rubber upper that looks as if it’s sculpted of molten metal. The limited edition release of 300 pairs, each individually numbered, was offered exclusively through Flight Club in an eagerly anticipated drop in May of this year.
Inspired by Oregon’s rich history of donning non-traditional uniforms, the shoe’s iconic, flowing design adds a new wave to the school’s cutting-edge heritage. Ironically, perhaps the most futuristic element is also one that ties it most closely to Oregon’s legacy. Rather than a single straightforward color, the iridescent upper shifts between shimmering shades of green and yellow, reflecting Oregon’s school colors and recalling the plumage of a Mallard Duck, an iconic denizen of the Northwest and inspiration for the University’s mascot.
Of course, the Metallic Nova edition’s Zoom Air cushioning platform and its aggressive rubber outsole make it a fully functional performance basketball shoe. But considering its bold design and limited release has caused more than a ripple among collectors, it’s safe to say that the Metallic Nova GT Future’s own future lies more on display than on court.
As with all Ducks of a Feather releases, all proceeds will go to help participating University of Oregon student-athletes.
